Friday 13 September 2024 Year 3 Our First Week! This week in Year 3, as part of our 'Working Together' theme, we had lots of fun during PE! The kids took part in three exciting games that got them moving and thinking as a team.

Wednesday 11 September 2024 Year One Delft plates and more... Taking inspiration from this year's Take One Picture - A Courtyard of a house in Delft' - Year One have been looking at Delft pottery on the creative table. The children have designed and made a mock-up of their very own Delft plate. They were challenged to make their Delft plate look as close to their design as they could.

Wednesday 11 September 2024 KS2 Singing This week, KS2 began their singing assemblies. These will take place weekly on Wednesdays. Children sang beautifully and were accompanied by Mr Armstrong on piano, Mr Reed on the cajon and Mr Watson on the guitar.

Friday 19 July 2024 Year 1 Puppets Year 1 have been busy designing and making their own hand puppets. This included sewing on button eyes and joining the fabric using a running stitch. Children were very proud of their work!

Thursday 18 July 2024 Y4 - Leavers' Festival Music, glitter facepaint and sports! This week, Y4 had a fantastic evening with their friends celebrating the end of their time at Sele First School as they played, danced and laughed throughout the Leavers' Festival. We wish all of our Year 4 children the best as they start their middle school adventures in September.

Friday 5 July 2024 Year Three Bike Ride At the beginning of the week, Year Three dodged the showers to take part in our annual bike ride to Warden. Following the National Cycle Route that runs alongside Tyne Green, the children cycled past Tynedale Golf Course before making their way along the track to Warden.

Thursday 4 July 2024 The Runaway Pea at Hexham Book Festival Reception enjoyed their visit to listen to The Runaway Pea. They created actions for the story and then made their own plates of peas. It was brilliant seeing how differently they all came out - from party peas with hats, to birthday cakes, peas with sunglasses and more!

Friday 28 June 2024 Minibeasts in the garden Reception are swiftly becoming minibeast experts! This week, they made brilliant leaf books writing facts about caterpillars and butterflies. Did you know caterpillars shed their skin 3 times?

Wednesday 26 June 2024 Year 2's Steal the Treasure Game For our PE lesson today, we took to the Sele to play a game of ‘Steal the Treasure’. Children were told the value of each item they stole and it was their challenge to collect as many items to make the highest score. Using their whiteboards, they added their values together. After two rounds, in came the robbers to steal people’s treasure! There was some fantastic team work skills and great adding!

Wednesday 26 June 2024 QuadKids County Finals On Monday, 10 children from Year Four represented Tynedale (and Sele) at the Northumberland School Games QuadKids Athletics Finals. The children selected were the top scoring 10 children from the qualifying round that all of Year Four attended at HMS earlier in the month.

Tuesday 25 June 2024 Y4 - Blogs Over the last two weeks, Y4 have been working towards getting their very own blogs set up. After completing their own research into a topic of choice, they created welcome blog posts and their first informative, interactive post. They will continue to add posts in the coming weeks before they view and comment on other children's work.

Friday 21 June 2024 Tiger to go to London! We are delighted to announce that this week The National Gallery in London confirmed they’d like to display our tiger physically. It will need packaged and sent to London for their Take One Picture exhibition. The tiger is undergoing important restoration work in preparation for this! Exhibition dates: 1st August - 1st September 2024.

Thursday 20 June 2024 Writing Day in Reception Reception loved National Writing Day! They particularly enjoyed writing positive notes for teachers and siblings and delivering them round school. They played Human Hungry Hippos on scooter boards, collecting letter balls to spell words.

Thursday 20 June 2024 Y4 - Rounders This week, Year 4 have been back out in the sun for PE! As a year group, Y4 were introduced to the rules of rounders. Playing in teams with children from across the year group, they have been perfecting their batting and fielding skills ahead of their transition visit to the middle schools in the near future. We have seen some excellent teamwork and some fantastic rounders skills - well done!

Thursday 20 June 2024 Y4 - National Writing Day Stories, raps, poems, letters! Year 4 have spent National Writing Day getting creative. In the morning, they chose to visit the magic classroom, the sport classroom or the nature classroom where they were encouraged to explore different genres of writing and writing for different audiences. They created recipes for magic potions, basketball raps, top trump cards and story books.

Monday 17 June 2024 School Games Tennis Today, 16 children from Key Stage Two went to Tynedale Tennis Club to take part in the School Games Tennis Competition. Sele entered a team from Year Four and a team from Year Three, taking part against two other local schools.

Friday 14 June 2024 Y3 Visit HMS This week Year 3 got to visit Hexham Middle School to experience what life is like in Year 5! We did several activities such as forest school, PE, Chemistry and Design and Technology!

Friday 14 June 2024 Year 2's Virtual Visit from Andy Day and Steven Lenton On Friday morning, Year 2 were very excited to welcome famous author Andy Day and illustrator Steven Lenton into their classrooms via Zoom. Whilst on the call, children followed instructions to draw their own ‘Dino Dad’ character. We had some very enthusiastic dancing as part of one of the challenges! Great work Carnivores and Herbivores!

Friday 14 June 2024 Sele First Take One Picture Success! Sele First School are delighted to announce that we have had our Take One Picture sculpture selected to be displayed at a National Gallery exhibition in London. Many of you will have walked past the life size tiger that was created by our current Year 4s and children who are now in Year 5. Our submission success is a tremendous achievement for the children and wider community of Sele First School.

Thursday 13 June 2024 Year 2's Snakes and Ladders In Maths this week, children created their own Snakes and Ladders game. They began by filling in the 100 square with a range of addition and subtraction calculations. Children drew the typical features found in a game, such as a long snake across the board and a ladder to help climb to victory! Finally, they had a go at playing the game using their knowledge of the tens and ones column to support them.

Wednesday 12 June 2024 Y4 - BeYou Transition Workshops Year 4 have been visited by Joy and Sarah from the BeYou team to complete transition themed workshops over the last three weeks. In the workshops, they thought about the worries they had about moving to middle school and how they could turn red thoughts into green thoughts. For example, changing 'I won't know anyone in my class' to 'I've made lots of friends in first school so I can make new friends in middle school'. In the final session, they created fortune tellers with questions about middle school and top tip posters for starting a new school.

Friday 7 June 2024 Year 3 - Ancient Greece This week children have been investigating Ancient Greece. They started by figuring out what they already knew about the Greeks and came up with questions of what they would like to investigate. Children used iPads and non-fiction books to find out the answers to their questions.
