Wednesday 29 January 2025 Blindfolded Jellyfish - Y2 This week, in our Movement Lab sessions, Year 2 had lots of fun playing ‘Blindfolded Jellyfish’. One child (or Mr Speed!) was blindfolded and became a jellyfish with long tentacles. In teams, children had to think about how to run, jump and dodge the stinging tentacles of the jellyfish. If they managed to pass without being stung, they collected a piece of treasure to take back to their group. The group with the most treasure won!

Wednesday 29 January 2025 The Reading Rangers visit Cogito Books Sele First were lucky enough to receive £150 as part of a History competition to spend on History texts from Cogito Books in Hexham.

Thursday 23 January 2025 Y2 Alien Poetry This week, in English lessons, Year 2 have been using their descriptions and images of aliens to create poetry. The children investigated different types of poems and explored different poetic features.

Wednesday 22 January 2025 Year 4 - Fractions In Year 4 we have started our fractions topic. We understand that a fraction is part of a whole and have learnt how to find fractions of shapes. Today we focused on equivalent fractions. We focused on a method which helped us to use multiplication and division to create equivalent fractions.

Wednesday 22 January 2025 Gingerbread Men This week, Year One have been baking gingerbread. After reading the traditional tale on Monday, our tummies were rumbling for some gingerbread biscuits!

Friday 17 January 2025 Bees! This week we had a visit from Mr Garlick who came to talk about bees! He told us lots of interesting facts about bees, including that there could be 70’000 in one hive! We’ve been looking at bees as the main pollinator in Geography and that a lot of food around the world is dependent on them.

Thursday 16 January 2025 Penguins in Reception Continuing their adventure into frozen worlds, Reception’s text this week was Jonty Gentoo, the penguin who escapes the zoo to head to Antarctica (via an accidental detour to the North Pole!)

Thursday 16 January 2025 Y2 Art - Day and Night Linked to work in Science, children created an image of day and night using oil pastels. They looked at creating a colour gradient and texture using blending. Children were proud of the work they had created!

Wednesday 15 January 2025 Year 4 Garden Year 4 enjoyed a frosty morning in the garden, learning about fire safety, safety on frozen ponds and toasting marshmallows.

Monday 13 January 2025 Strange beanstalk found in Year One corridor! There was a sense of mystery surrounding the Year One corridor this morning as a strange giant beanstalk and packet of magic beans was found outside of 1S and 1T.

Monday 13 January 2025 Life in a Northumbrian Manor Last year, a group of current Year 4 children took part in a project with the Northumberland Archives, to learn about the history of Hexham. They created stop motion animations of life inside a Northumberland Manor, linked to a visit to the marketplace.

Friday 10 January 2025 Y2's Timeline of Life Events This week in History, Year 2 were very excited to start their new topic Pocahontas. Children discussed the importance of evidence and how this can be a strong indicator as to who the person is and what they have done in the past.

Friday 10 January 2025 Year 4 - Spanish Colours After some revision of common Spanish greetings and how to say ‘I like’, Year 4 learnt how to say and write the main colours. (Blanco, gris, rojo, azul, naranja, verde, amarillo and many more). We created watercolour patterns and then labelled them with the correct Spanish vocabulary. Great work Year 4!

Thursday 9 January 2025 Animals in Cold Places This half term, Reception begin their work on Frozen Worlds. This week they learnt lots about animals who live in the Arctic. Children used a non-fiction text, looking at the contents page to identify which animal they wanted to find facts about.

Thursday 9 January 2025 Voiceovers This week Children in Year 3 have been working on their voiceover projects in Computing. This activity is all about developing their creativity, confidence, and communication skills.

Friday 3 January 2025 Join our club! New to Sele First this half term are two further before school sporting activities. Thanks to Full of Beans North East, Sele will be offering Y1 and Y2 a multi-sports club on a Wednesday and a multi-sports club for Y3 and Y4 on a Friday. Both clubs will run from 8:00-8:40 and throughout the whole of the Spring Term. For further information, please read the poster below.

Thursday 19 December 2024 Celebrating Christmas in Reception Reception started the week with their Christmas Party! Since then, children have been busy making Christmas cards for family and friends, creating paper elves, making decorations for the Narnia Christmas Trail and discovering festive word hunts around the classroom.

Wednesday 18 December 2024 Santa Dash 2024-25 Today we finally hosted our annual Santa Dash after suffering the disappointment of having it cancelled earlier in the month.

Tuesday 17 December 2024 Y3 Masks Year 3 have been exploring the Amazon Rainforest in Geography. As part of their DT project, they created incredible animal masks inspired by creatures found in rainforests around the world. Each mask started with a simple paper plate, cut, shaped and secured using masking tape. The children then added colour and intricate details using tissue paper and glue. Take a look at the fantastic tigers and sloths they've made!

Thursday 12 December 2024 Y3 Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland's Carol Service Year 3 children were invited to sing at a special service held for the whole of Northumberland to celebrate the county's community spirit. We were one of three musical interludes. We sang carols with a brass band and listened to some fantastic singers from Vox Populi.
