Year 3 History – Exploring the Stone Age

This term, Year 3 have been rolling back the years—literally! To help understand the vast timescales of history, the children took part in an exciting hands-on activity using a toilet roll to represent British human history. Each sheet of paper covered thousands of years, allowing them to visualize just how long ago the Stone Age really was.

As they unrolled history down the corridor, the class discovered key moments in time, from the Neolithic farmers to the Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers. They placed themselves along the timeline, calling out important events and seeing where famous historical periods fit in. This engaging, interactive lesson helped the children grasp chronology in a fun and memorable way.

The activity sparked fantastic discussions, with the children amazed at how much of history fits into just the last few sheets! We can't wait to continue our journey through the past.
