Y2's PMH Workshop - Resilience

Y2 PMH Resilience

Year 2 welcomed the Primary Mental Health team into classrooms to deliver a workshop based on Resilience. Children began by identifying the characteristics of being resilient:

Determination
Concentration
Learning
Children were able to identify what characteristic they needed to work on using their own examples. There were lots of children talking about determination when learning a musical instrument.
I need to focus on determination and never give up when learning the new keys, even when I make mistakes.  Billy
Year 2's resilience was put to the test by balancing on one leg, patting their head whilst rubbing their tummy. There were a lot of wobbly children! They discussed how resilience can positively impact their mental health bringing confidence, happiness, pride and achievement. Finally, children took on the ultimate test of resilience... to build their own tower using pasta and marshmallows. As part of the challenge they worked as a team against their peers, making sure the model was the tallest and strongest in the class! Great team work Year 2!
“It’s tricky working against a timer! We don’t have long left!” Idris
“We really should have made a plan before jumping into it!” Hugh
