Traditional Tales - The Three Little Pigs

It felt like STEM came early for Year One this week, as they were tasked to design and make houses for the Three Little Pigs.

After hearing the story, the children were challenged to make houses from art straws, lolly-pop sticks and Lego bricks. The houses needed to be waterproof and able to survive the huffing and puffing of Mr Wolf (the teacher with a hairdryer)

In science, children learned the importance of fair testing and decided we'd pour the same amount of water on the houses and use the hairdryer for the same amount of time.

The children were not surprised to see that the Lego house was the most successful, with water leaking into the straw and wood houses.  There was a lot of laughter as the hairdryer was able to blow the straw and stick houses around the room but the Lego house prevailed again, proving to be strong as well as waterproof. A fun build and experiment all round.
