Ray Wind Farm

The Eco Warriors had a brilliant visit to Ray Wind Farm, near Otterburn, run by Vattenfall, the renewable energy company.

They moved around the site and tested the wind speed with their own anemometers. We have been kindly gifted one to test the wind speed in the school grounds. 

Here are just some of the fantastic facts children learnt:

- One blade weighs the same as 2 elephants

- A windmill should last 25 years

- Ray Wind Farm can power 30,000 homes

There were some brilliant questions from the children, e.g. why are some windmill's not moving? How do you move a windmill?
