Music
Across KS1 and KS2, Music is taught during rotations where the teacher delivering the lesson has a musical strength. EY class teachers will deliver Music to their own classes.
Children learn the characteristic skills of a musician; to Perform, Compose, Transcribe and Describe. Teachers use ‘Charanga’ and ‘SingUp’ to support their teaching; this allows for clear progression of skills. All children in KS1 and KS2 will learn to play a variety of tuned and untuned instruments such as; ukulele, xylophone, boomwhackers, bells, drums, maracas, tambourines and kazoos.
In addition, children have the opportunity to learn to play the violin, guitar, keyboard, piano, drums and the recorder, both in school and as part of extra-curricular activities. Choir engage in many regular community activities. They perform at Christmas in care homes and for our Trinity Service, they perform alongside local music groups such as the Hexham Amateur Stage Society and other musical events in the region. Sele First School also offers extracurricular accordion and recorder lessons.
Highlights of the year include the KS2 Christmas Carol concert and the Leavers’ Show. Both opportunities give children the experience of performance in larger community venues such as the Hexham Abbey and Queens Hall Arts Centre.
